Meeting with Jane Gregory on Monday

Jane Gregory popped in today to make a donation and I mentioned what we were doing to raise extra money for Cancer Rsearch UK's life saving work and Jane invited me over to her Hair & Beauty salon on Monday to chat about how Jane Gregory Hair & Beauty Salon can get involved. I am so excited!

We raised another £24.31 with Winchester's Words of Wisdom this week.

Thank you to all our supporters and customers for their wise words.

Holly's Wise Words

Our lovely volunteer Holly popped in to the shop yesterday to share some of her words of wisdom.
Thanks Holly - you are indeed very wise!

  • don't be afraid to be yourself. if people don't accept you, they don't belong in your life.
  • Never regret the things you've done, because at that specific moment in your life it was exactly what you wanted it to be.
  • ... if it is too easy, it is the usually the wrong choice. Most things worthwhile are not easy. Take the high road, tough going but worth the effort.
  • Live the life you want to live. Be the person you want to remember. Make decision, Make mistakes. If you fall, At least you tried.
  • old enough to know better, young enough to try again.
  • Be careful with your words. Once they're said, they can only be forgiven, not forgotten.

Words of Wisdom

I thought I'd have a look for some words of wisdom on my day off and these ones caught my eye.

  • Sometimes the picture painted isn't the one that's always seen.
  • You only get one shot at this game called life; so take risks, live for the moment, and don't have any regrets.
  • Your true friends are the ones who don't hurt you,but love you and are there no matter how rough or long the the road is...
  • ‎"when someone trusts you blindly, never prove that they are blind.."
  • Some lessons are best learned through pain. And sometimes, our visions become clear only after our eyes are washed with tears.♥
  • Your life is made from the decisions that you make, don't regret making a wrong one, instead learn from it, move on, and don't look back!

As for Wise Words says Lee

My dear old school friend Lee has just celebrated his birthday and shared some wise words with me:

As for wise words Karen  how about "if life was meant to be simple then we'd all die in cemetries".

Thanks Lee not sure that is all that wise!

Today's favourite saying in the book in the shop:

"You have to kiss a few frogs before you find a Prince!"

Thought for the day

We are builders of our own characters. We have different positions, spheres, capacities, privileges, different work to do in the world, different temporal fabrics to raise; but we are all alike in this, -- all are architects of fate.

Today's Top Tip in Winchester

Lots of Wise customers today and some who decided that thinking of wise words on the spot wasn't a good idea so they took away my email  address and still popped 25p in the donation pot!

My regular customer decided again to make a comment this time it was about our newest volunteers:
She writes:
"Karen again - 2nd message in 2 days - Now, 2 new volunteers who are obviously efficient, enthusiastic and damn good fun - one is (m) and the other is (f)." RJL.

Thank you we have amazing volunteers and today's were brilliant: Thank you to Ermis, Dean, Martyn, Jan, Guy and Kay - we achieved so much!

So my tip to you is if you are efficient, enthusiastic and like having fun then come along and volunteer for Cancer Research UK and together we will make a difference and beat cancer!

Thanks Richie for your wise words.

My Favourite Words of Wisdom so far...

We started collecting Winchester's Words of Wisdom on the 9th December and are raising money for Cancer Research UK's life saving work and I have found several people's words very moving.

Step out in to the sunshine Leave the dull grey days behind.
S.M. Ellis

Papa Says: "It's nice to be nice!" (In memory of my Grandad Abdul Hamid)

Love is our only shelter!

The average life span is 650,000 hours...make each one count.

It only takes one tree to make 1000 matches. It only takes one match to burn 1000 trees.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain!

Thank you to everyone who contributed so far.

Contribute by Using Just Giving :)

I have created a Just Giving page so people can contribute online - send me your words of wisdom, greatest tips or words of advice and donate through this Just Giving Page and together we will beat cancer.

How it all started :)

I am the manager of the Cancer Research UK shop in Winchester and together with my volunteer Pauline and customer Wendy this fundraising idea emerged and in just two days it raised just over £50.
We put a book on our counter and asked our customers to part with just 25p to write in our book their words of wisdom or greatest tip or piece of advice and the response was fantastic!
Three ladies came in and we chatted about words of wisdom and they asked me to create this blog so that they could follow our progress. I shall do my best to keep you up to date with the wise words from Winchester and keep you informed on how much we raise.
I have also created a Just Giving page so we can have online contributions too!

Together we can beat cancer!

Karen
